About Us
The Survival Ark Foundation (SAF) was founded by in May 2016 and registered as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in July of the same year. The NGO started with a group of women and two men who envisioned providing services to children who were at risk of falling prey to social ills (substance abuse, HIV and AIDS, teenage pregnancy, truancy, delinquency and school drop-out, amongst others) that are affecting Seychelles.
The NGO started by offering supervision for children during the school holidays in the home of one of our members. The safety of the children was a major priority. As the group got larger, SAF networked with the district administrators of Beau Vallon and Bel Ombre to access places like the district community centres to offer the services and shelter for the children
The Belombre district administrator opened her doors to accommodate SAF during the holidays. From there on, SAF has been active in working with the schools by providing afterschool homework clubs, counselling to parents and children, organising sessions with children at school level, and organising holiday programmes for children aged 4 to 12 years. SAF also networked with Beau Vallon Secondary School to incorporate S4-S5 students as volunteers to help as facilitators during the holiday programmes.
SAF is a member of the Social and Health Commission of the civil society platform, called Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles (CEPS). The member organisations have expressed their concern about the situation of HIV and AIDS in Seychelles and the need to become engaged in the national response. The Social and Health Commission believes that it can make a valuable contribution.
